Succession Ontario is a free province-wide initiative designed to help Ontario business owners prepare early for the future of their business through succession and exit planning. Research and industry best practice consistently show that beginning succession planning 3–5 years before an anticipated transition or exit can help strengthen business operations, improve readiness, and maximize business value over time.
Whether a business owner plans to eventually sell their business, transfer ownership to a family member or employee, or prepare for retirement years down the road, the program provides practical tools, training, and guidance to help navigate the process with confidence.
The program offers access to self-paced learning modules, succession planning roadmaps, valuation resources, readiness assessments, planning checklists, and educational videos to help business owners better understand their options and prepare for a successful transition. Business owners can also connect with advisors and support networks across Ontario to receive additional guidance throughout the planning process.
Succession Ontario focuses on helping small and micro-business owners protect the value of their business, preserve jobs within their communities, and ensure long-term business continuity. Resources are designed to simplify succession planning and make the process more accessible for entrepreneurs at every stage of business ownership.
